Better Never Means Better for Everyone...
In Margaret Atwood's novel, The Handmaid's Tale, Commander Waterford complains about life “before” Gilead, and suggests that what they’ve built is an improvement.
Offred, the protagonist responds, “Better? I say, in a small voice. How can he think this is better?” She's lost her child, her husband, and everything that made her life meaningful.
The Commander's response —“Better never means better for everyone. It always means worse, for some." — is chilling.
Often in the world today, it means financially worse for women. A world where:
-
Women earn 81-94 cents on the dollar compared to men according to the Brookings Institute.
-
Women are more likely to run out of retirement savings.
-
Women often shoulder the responsibility of leaving the workforce to care for children and aging parents.
-
Workplace culture pushes women out of lucrative careers and senior roles.
How do you succeed financially in a world that's often tilted against you, and sometimes feels rigged? Add to that, the challenge of building a career, a romantic relationship , raising kids, and caring for your physical, and emotional wellbeing. No wonder building an authentic, satisfying, and financially secure life feels so difficult.
Those who succeed often have a mentor providing critical support, guidance, and insight. It’s not about being the smartest, the hardest‑working, or the luckiest. When you choose your financial partner, you choose your future.
What would it mean to have someone truly invested in your success? A good listener, committed to helping you create—and sustain—positive financial momentum toward your goals, and a better life through strategic financial planning.
